The local currency is the Belize dollar which is tied to the US dollar with a fixed exchange rate of BZ$2=US$1. There are currently five commercial banks: The Belize Bank Limited, First Caribbean Bank, The Bank of Nova Scotia, Alliance Bank of Belize Limited and the Atlantic Bank Limited. Commercial banks are regulated by the Central Bank of Belize.
